Plot: World War II, fall 1941. Soldiers of 11th east Czechoslovakian battalion are sent to the town Tobruk in North-African country of Libya besieged by Germans and Italians. A young soldier Georges Pospichal is part of this detachment. His naïve and idealistic ideas of heroism and war are challenged by the unbearable hell of the African desert.
